The TrackWear project is involved with individual warnings for people in the area of tracks on construction sites or during maintenance work.
The team includes Rail Expert Consult GmbH, an engineering firm in the area of railway technology, and the Centre for Medical Physics and Biomedical Technology of the Medical University of Vienna, and we are working on new approaches to personal warning devices.
The advantages of an individual warning system, e.g. low noise emission, are mainly useful in areas with high residential density. Optical, acoustic, and vibro-tactile warning signals warn employees in the area of a track in front of approaching trains that they are on the current or neighbouring track. A new combination of intensity levels and activation of multiple sensory channels provide increased flexibility to warning processes. Evaluations on construction sites in Austria and in neighbouring countries are planned with industrialisation of the system in mind.
